I've read every book in this series, and my reviews have bounced from 4 to 3 stars a couple of times. The better books are solid and entertaining. The weaker ones frustrate me with weak plots and characters and what I feel is a lack of real emotion. No Place Like Home definitely falls on the weaker end of the spectrum. It uses an interesting take on the whole world of Oz, having Dorothy be a human girl who has absorbed the spirits of all 4 of the witches from Oz (North, South, East and West), which results in her emotional state varying wildly depending on which spirit is ascendant. And Toto is now a human girl who was transformed into a dog by one of the wicked witches before Dorothy absorbed her powers.Of the older characters on Parker and Ella-Marie appear, and while they get some wonderful treatment here, it ends up feeling far less emotional filled than it should. The trio should have been much more loving in my opinion, and the lack of romance really brings down the book overall. It's been a wonderful series at times, but Erik markets these partly as lesbian romances, and the romance is just not in this book. O wamted tp ;ole the characters, but I just didn't find anyone who stood out the way I might have hoped. Its clearly one of the weaker books of the series
Another installment for the urban fairytales! This time a spin on one of the classics of my childhood the wizard of oz. we pick up exactly where we left off from the previous installment where Ella-Marie just got her and Parker transported to the mystical and magical place that is Oz though when I was a kid it never made much sense to me since I was a weird kid wanting to know the stories of the world itself how it came to be, anyways I’m rambling... but yes this is a great installment to the series! There was this refreshing take on it that pushed the series further. The action was was very suspenseful and the comedy was spot on. It still touched on some more serious topics which were handled quite nicely in my point of view. But yes you should definitely give this a read! And all I can say is...Wicked has never been this good!
I have read every book in this series multiple times and they always make me smile, laugh, and sometimes cry. The story of Dorthy Gale has long been one of my favorites and I have seen every version of the Wizzard of Oz the good, Timeman, the bad, the Muppets. This is in my top five tellings of her story it has always been her story for me the wizard was always a minor character for she was truly the one with magic. Eric Schubach has given this story a wonderful twist and I highly recommend it to all.PS Bonus you get to see Ella and Marie stand beside their precious Parker together in all ways.
What can I say that I haven't said before about this author. I absolutely love his books and this one is not exception. This series is the one that got me hooked on his writing and I am sad to think that it will eventually end. All of his books have me, at the very least, chuckling and grinning but this one had me laughing so hard my face hurt. The clown feet were brilliant. Love, love, love. Can't wait for the next one in any of his series. I devour them in a day and then I'm left waiting for more.
I loved this book! The characters of Oz were well thought out and I loved the bitchy friendship between Dorothy and Ella. I laughed at almost every clownish exchange!Truth be told I initially thought Toni was 'The Cowardly Lion' Imagine my suprise when I realised who she is!Ok - Robyn Hood was my favourite character but Im starting to think Dorothy is my new favourite. I love her wicked sense of humour!.Cant wait till the next one.
A good story though I gladly know why I haven’t read the original “Wizard of Oz†because of just how crazy that is and it translate well to this story too. Each character is rich and vibrant a few flaws of speeding the story along so any growth is very sudden, if not jarring. The story can be confusing at times, but that’s due to both the nature of Oz as well as staying true to the story being told.
When I first started this series, I wasn't sure I was going to like it. But I gave it a chance because I am a fan of Erik Schubach's writing. I am SO glad that I started this series because it has become one of my favorites. "No Place Like Home," the newest addition to the Urban Fairytales series, does not disappoint. Dot and Toto are excellent additions to the "fairytale princess" crew. This book is a great combination of heart and action. I would highly recommend reading not only this book, but every other book in the series. You will be happy that you did.
Fantastic edition to the urban fairytale series. Nicely paced, with characters you can't help but fall in love with. I'd been waiting for this one since the last installment and it picks up right where we left off. So not only do we get to spend time with characters we already know and love, but we get introduces to new ones as well. If you're a fan of Schubach's work then this won't disappoint.
