*This book was provided by the publisher/author for an honest review.Hurry Hurry! Don’t delay. The True Reign Series is a force to be reckoned with, and you will want to experience everything that the characters do. No matter what time of night you concluded your enjoyment of The Key, Book 1, you will need to download this book just to quell your book hangover. Not to mention there nasty cliffhanger of the last book. Like the greats (Karen Marie Moning) cliffhangers are a necessary evil, even though it kills us.In this installment of The True Reign Seris, it starts just where it ended. The resilient but scared, Rema finds herself in a foreign hidden organization. Her uncle and aunt are there, but it’s still an untrustworthy place. She is injured and relies on the fact that her necklace alludes to trusting Mako. She still hasn’t figured out the rest of the codes, but she will not stop until she learns what it all means.Prince Darmik is on the hunt for Rema. Knowing only that he wants to know if she is safe. He loves her and knows the King (his father) will stop at nothing to aid Prince Lennek from getting his retribution for Prince Darmik and Rema’s love. All the cards are on the table, but only a few of the cards are turned over. Once Rema uncovers the truth, will she back down from her destiny or will she rise to the occasion? Jennifer Anne Davis deserves all the applause in the world for this fantastic follow up to The Key!!Don’t stop when you finish either. Download the next book immediately for conclusion is definatly a must read!!!*This review was done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official.
I finished this book yesterday and have started the last one in the series. If I thought I hated King Barjon and his heir in the last book multiply that times 100. The king threatens Darmik in this book to find Rema or he is removed from his duty as commander. He is never really treated as a son so no loss there. The funny thing is he let Rema go when he had the opportunity to catch her because she is bleeding from the fall she took during her escape from the noose. Darmik also had his knife lifted ready to free her himself before the rebels jumped in and did it for him.The worst thing is the king is impatient and scared that evidence will be found out about the deaths of the royal family so he can't afford to have Rema free or Trell. Trell was the commander during the original battle and he lives with disgust and guilt for what took place. He wants to fix his wrong by bringing the queen to her rightful place. He has covered up the fact that the queen lived so that someday the rebels would come back to restore order. A bet is made and if Lennek and the Captain (assassin) find Rema 1st than Lennek is free to do whatever he wants with her before she is executed but if Darmik finds her 1st than she will just get the execution... decisions, decisions. It doesn't matter because Darmik has no intention of turning her over and finally decides to fight for the right team. Along side him is his best friend and most trusted soldier Neco. Together they find the royal fortress and pledge their loyalty to the queen.Rema awakes to a strange new prison of sorts and meets her savior Mako . She is still not filled in on her identity instead she is filled in on the city she is now in and told that is time for her to begin her training. Mako's commander Savenek has specific orders to teach her all he knows. Savenek was raised by Mako as his son and the two have a profound respect for one another. Savenek is a fierce fighter and other than training shows no interest in anything else. This changes once he begins his training with Rema. The two quarrel repeatedly and Rema even manages to put him in his place a few times but for all their fights and harsh words Savenek confesses his true feelings for her complete with a marriage proposal. There are several things I've left out and other characters that I did not even mention that are important to the story but each one has got there own part they contribute to the story and to introduce them would simply take too long. The main things are King and heir are still alive but are beginning to turn on the other, Rema lives and still loves Darmik who now has a rival in Sevenek. Through most of this book Rema and Darmik are kept apart but I think that was important because both characters had to grow and learn about themselves. They are brought back together and it is Darmik who tells Rema that she is Princess Amer.Again this is a clean book with only a few indiscretions by Lennek being mentioned or walked in on. The anticipation for how it's all going to end is there and I am patiently waiting to see the fall of the King and his heir. I have a feeling the king will be killed by Lennek but it is just a feeling at this point and it ends with another cliffhanger.
Continuing on from book one, The Key, this story is told from alternating POV's of Rema, the horse breeder's niece and Prince/Commander of Greenwood Island, Darmik. Rema has been through quite a scary ordeal at the end of book one and book two picks right back off in the same scene. The last chapter of book one is the first chapter of book two. I liked that because it brought me straight into the terror of what Rema is going through. There's so much to say and yet if I say too much, it'll give away too much from the first book and potentially ruin some things for the reader. Suffice it to say that I continue to love this story about kings being overthrown, about finding the rightful heir, about romance between two unlikely people who should be enemies, about betrayal and loyalty. This series has everything that makes a Young Adult Fantasy story a winner in my book!Rema is not some weak silly girl. She's got true grit and determination. She's kind and thoughtful and yet has a fire about her which comes out when she stands up for what she believes is right. She's an awesome heroine! Darmik is the second son of a ruthless king who rules with fear and oppression versus respect and honor. Darmik is the younger brother of a nasty, spiteful, arrogant and evil Crown Prince. Despite the loyalty he feels towards them and the love he has for them because they are family, he will rise to the challenge of doing what's right for the kingdom and its people. He is a true Hero.Books one and two both have an ending that immediately made me HAVE to read the next book! So even though book one was a FREEBIE (when I purchased it), I had no problems whatsoever purchasing books two and three! If you love Young Adult fantasy and romance, similar genre series like The Remnant Chronicles and His Fair Assassin, then this is a MUST read for you!Favorite Quotes:There was value in listening to the citizens, in treating others with respect and compassion."Remember," Trell whispered to Darmik, "her blood ties everything together. She is the weapon you need for peace."Language Rating: 1 (light)Mature Content Rating: 1 (light)Final Rating: 4.5 stars!
