Never opened the book, but the questions on the software was fast & accurate, right down to our pets. I went to the Fedex Store to print them out, and spent $20 at a notary, and now my wife & I have our Wills, Living Wills, Financial & Health Powers of Attorney's done. It is a a piece of mind!
Nolo is a great company but I have mixed feelings about their Willmaker product -- it ranges from 5 stars to 1 star depending on what one is trying to do. In addition to the will (one chooses a format then fills in the blanks, which are easy to correct and update in a single entry), there is excellent legal and personal information for executors and survivors in several additional documents (5 stars). The will itself uses any one of three basic formats, all inflexible -- I can almost guarantee that you will ultimately need a lawyer to draft your final will if you have more than a very simple estate, but at least the Willmaker gets you organized. A major frustration is that there is no info about how to transfer all the data you entered (a .pfl file) from one computer to another for future editing (e.g. from your desktop to your laptop). Fortunately Nolo support is very helpful, and after several email exchanges, I got it done (1 star for lack of transfer info, 5 stars for Nolo support). Another frustration is the lack of some important legal information. For example your primary beneficiary may want everything except your modern art collection, but according to the will, the primary beneficiary would have to pre-decease you before the modern art collection (or anything else) could pass to your secondary or residuary beneficiary. Disclaiming bequests is not an option in the will -- it is not even mentioned in the supporting (sidebar) information (1 star). You may find other gaps based on your specific needs. I would probably buy Willmaker again just because it forces one to organize one's plans and has much useful legal information, but I wish Nolo would improve some parts of it in the meantime.
Horrible product for a few reasons. First, product "support" only lasts for the year of the product. After that, if you want to make changes to your will, you need to order the newest year. So I have up until Dec 31, 2018 to make changes, then I need to buy the newest year product over again if I want to update it again.If that's not enough, they are so concerned with you stealing their "intellectual property" that they make it impossible to tweak your will or make any changes to the document itself. Like turbotax, it has a wizard interface. The problem is that it is a bit cludgy, so if you want to change anything, you need to go back through the wizard for that section. The problem is that any changes you make wipe out ALL of the progress you made from that step forward. For example, if you want to make a change for something in step 2 and you were on step 10, well then you need to do steps 3-10 over again.Lastly, this might work if you have an "easy" scenario. But if you need any special circumstances....even something as simple as having different scenarios how your assets are handled if you children are under 18 or over 18, you're in for a tough time.Just bad.
Purchased this product before and it has served me for almost two decades. I know that it gets the job done, as after completing, I asked my attorney to check it over. I decided to update my will as some of my assets have changed and am pleased with this purchase.
The software: I do not do well with complex software so I was a little apprehensive about trying to use this. After spending a reasonable bit of time reading the instructions, I found the software's step by step style user friendly (easy to use) and straight forward to make our living wills, health care directives and documents for the executor.. The wills section offers option to leave certain assets to individuals either in whole or or shared among several people. There's also a (an on-line/electronic section) where you can write down account numbers and passwords should something happen and someone needs to go on-line to attend to to your accounts.The book: Read through the book first for advice on which parts of the software will best fit your needs. The book offers good legal advice that is in layman's terms so you can understand it. It also I agree; If your will is not complicated, you do not need a lawyer. This software and book will take of it and save you money..Installation on Windows 10 was easy.
Quick, easy and intuitive to use, especially if you want to generate a basic will. If you're procrastinating doing a will, this product will get your basic wishes down on paper in a short amount of time. Has a nice 'flip' feature so that you can quickly generate a spouse's will that reverses the spouses as each others' beneficiaries. Also allows you to generate wills for others. Includes Advanced Directive docs, etc. if you need them. Great product!

Ugh, making a will is no fun. The Quicken Willmaker Plus has made this helped make the process easier. It's very organized and covers everything you need. I love the fill in forms. It reminds me of tax programs; another not fun project. Everyone needs a will and this is the way to go. Finally, I can die happy knowing that I got this task out of the way.
