The story then skips ahead to the 1800s, when Howard Carter's frustrating five-year search for Egyptian treasure finally resulted in his discovery of the young pharoah's tomb. Although there's little new information here, these true tales of mummies and ancient treasure in an easy-reader format should prove popular. Ventura and Ceserani's In Search of Tutankhamum (Silver Burdett, 1985) provides a more detailed account of Carter's struggles, and its illustrations are superior to the standard textbook drawings found here. But its nice to see photos of the Egyptian finds included in this book, which will help readers share the excitement that Carter must have felt when his dream of finding an ancient tomb finally came true. My nephew is really into mummies and wants to be an archaeologist when he grows up. I am that aunt who nurtures a love of reading by buying all the littles books and educational things for holidays and birthdays. So I put together a little bag of some books on Egypt and mummies for him. It was a hit! He liked all the pictures in it especially.
My 7-yr-old granddaughter loves this book. I have many books on Egyptian history which she enjoys looking at when she comes over here. But this is her first very own book on Egypt and she loves reading it out loud to anyone who will listen!
Excellent book. My first grader loved it! She did book report for literature day and dressed up as Tut's wife.
I purchased this book new as part of our curriculum. It arrived with an unfortunate rip in the cover.
Great non fiction book for my 7 year old Grandson. It is advanced non fiction topic, but with lots of pictures to keep his attention. Typical Step into Reading series style with controlled vocabulary. Step into Reading does a great job at providing higher level topics at easy reading levels. Many young kids want this kind of content. Price is excellent.
